University of Bedfordshire research project: independent dance artists’ experience

Being an independent dancer

In 2015 and 2016, ID supported researchers Rachel Farrer and Dr Imogen Aujla from the University of Bedfordshire in their investigation of the role that psychological factors play in the career of the independent dancer.

The research is now complete and you can download a copy of their report, Independent Dancers Roles, Motivations and Success.

It describes the working lives of freelance dance artists, the social and occupational context, perceptions of implicit hierarchies, and artists’ career progression within the field.

For more information about the research, which looks at the project page on University of Bedfordshire’s website.

A version of Kirsty Alexander and Gitta Wigro’s keynote address at the research launch will be available in the near future.
