Independent Dance will be suspending classes from today, Monday 16 March, for two weeks. It’s a hard decision to make, but given the fast-evolving Covid-19 situation, we feel that this is right for now. This means that there is no Morning Class or Monday Night Improvisation class from Monday 16 March to Friday 27 March. If you were planning to come, we are very sorry for the short notice.
ID will be announcing more plans relating to the summer term soon but we need a few more days before doing that, so we can make arrangements and communicate with everyone involved in facilitating the programme.
With warmest wishes to you all in these hard times.
Heni Hale, Nikki Tomlinson, Claudia Tonietto
Monday – Friday
The daily class provides a professional learning environment to support mindful curiosity and physical intelligence in movement research. Leading British-based and international artists draw from a unique amalgamation of their experiences in dance and other body-mind practices. These include Body-mind Centering (BMC), Feldenkrais, Yoga, Alexander Technique, Skinner Releasing Technique, Improvisation, Contact Improvisation, and Bartenieff Fundamentals. With a focus on movement explorations that attend to what movement feels like, rather than imitating an ideal form, classes are accessible to all, including disabled artists.
The classes embody an ethos of questioning, extending notions of what dance can be and for whom.
