About ID classes

Contemporary dance is an oral tradition – its languages, practices and ideas are transmitted and developed through the live exchange of artists on a daily basis. A clear philosophy – flowing from the notion of a dance artist who is continuously exploring, questioning and extending his/her practice and approach - underlies ID's programme and influences the range of classes and artists invited to lead and contribute to it. A continuity of respected British-based teachers, supplemented by leading international artists, lies at the centre of ID's programming ethos.

The regular programme of:

provides a continuity of provision for artists whose employment, even at the height of their careers is often sporadic, and an opportunity for non-dance artists to experience the improvisational approaches used by many of the leading dance artists in the UK.

Our regular programme aims to go beyond the maintenance of physical condition and technical skill, to promote mindful and efficient practice and to embrace a holistic approach to participants' ongoing development as expressive and creative artists.

This philosophy extends beyond dance artists' creative practice into the wider spheres of interaction, collaboration and innovative approaches to the management of portfolio careers as performers, teachers, viewers and creators of work.

Siobhan Davies Studios is wheelchair accessible and the Independent Dance programme is open to disabled and non-disabled professional dance artists. Please call 020 7091 9650 if you have any particular access requirements.
