Solo Performance Commissioning Project
The Solo Performance Commissioning Project (SPCP) is a unique project, which ID produced for nine editions with pioneering and award-winning choreographer Deborah Hay, in collaboration with Bodysurf Scotland.
It involves 20 dance artists who commission a solo dance choreographed by Deborah Hay. They are guided and coached by her in the performance of the solo during a 10-day period in a residency setting. At the conclusion of the residency, each participant signs a contractual agreement to a daily solo practice of the new piece, for a minimum of nine months before their first public performance.
The final SPCP with Deborah Hay took place in Findhorn, Scotland, in August 2012.
"Deborah Hay has decided that 2012 will be the final year of the Solo Performance Commissioning Project. She feels it is time to move on to a new and yet undefined process of making work and sharing it with others. There is something a bit superstitious too in deciding to end the SPCP after 14 years. 1+4 adds up to 5 and 5 is her favourite number."
