Tuesday 4 September 2018
This day is specifically designed for dance graduates to experience the classes and work on offer at Independent Dance. The day will begin with free morning class, followed by the opportunity to hear from artists, meet the ID team and network with fellow graduates. Share resources and survival strategies for a newly forming career in dance.
10am – 12noon Morning Class with Katye Coe
A special taster class just for graduates facilitated by Katye Coe, one of ID’s regular artists, to give you an sense of the programme and how it could support your ongoing development as an independent artist. Our classes provide a professional learning environment to support mindful curiosity and physical intelligence in movement research. Leading British-based and international artists draw from a unique amalgamation of their experiences in dance and other body-mind practices.
10am – 12noon Parlour Conversation: Navigating your artistic identity
If the morning class is full by the time you arrive, join us and other artists for a Parlour Conversation instead: an informal gathering of artists discussing a topic relevant to independent practice and working life. This morning’s discussion will be an invitation to share how we maintain our identities as movers, and how we balance nurturing ourselves and our practices with earning money.
12.30 – 3pm Conversation and networking with fellow artists and ID team
A chance for exchange and discussion about the transition from student to independent dance artist. Bring your lunch and settle in for an informal conversation. Katye Coe will talk about her research into the nature and politics of dancers’ practice.
A limited number of places are available for those who have graduated within the last 2 years or are 2nd year students.
