Yoga and The Patterns Behind How We Practice ‘...I feel the sun itself as it blazes over the hills, like a million flowers on fire - clearly I am not needed yet I feel myself turning into something of inexplicable value...’ - Mary Oliver This week of morning classes will river along a process that starts with exploring the patterns we make for front bending and back bending and then will move towards exploring the patterns that have a diagonal and spiral dynamic. Some of the themes we will explore will be: Yoga and the River of Inner and Outer Spaces exploring front-bend and back-bend embodied patterns Yoga and the River of Inner Bridges exploring diagonal and spiral embodied patterns Yoga and the Vertical River exploring balancing and inverted patterns exploring hinges, axes and pulleys Yoga and the Secret Garden exploring the patterns that arise from the front of the back and the back of the front Yoga and the River of Tiny waves exploring how we create dynamic stability and dynamic flow exploring ecological, sustainable, micro-movement In each class we will walk around the above themes starting from different places. We will build our process of exploration day by day while allowing you to feel comfortable to miss a class or drop in for only one or two. Ample time will be made for asana practice while at the same time learning to sense patterns in yourself and others. Time will be given to self exploration as well as some exploration with others. Depending on the nature of the group present and questions time can be given also to theory of movement and discussion. Patterns are not always problems. Patterns can also be resourceful. Patterns can be rivers of information that are about relationships. Patterns can help us connect our structure (the obvious body) to our capacity to be coordinated, to perceive and to create or stumble on meaning as we move from old to new patterns.
