10:00am [10:00am-12:00pm] Zoi Dimitriou
Description:

Zoi's class is strongly influenced by the work of Susan Klein and F.M. Alexander. Class will begin simply by focusing on our skeletal structure and breath to access the power of the deeper supporting muscles of the body. By energizing the dancer’s directional use of energy throughout the body, one can rediscover a state of being, free from accumulated habit patterns.

Concepts and aspects of the body are introduced through pictorial and metaphoric imagery and partner work exploration. Each concept is then applied to the act of dancing through the structure of a technique class. Central themes are the skeletal system, handling of weight, the perceptions and the ordination/co-ordination.

The aim is in providing the dancer with the experiential knowledge of body mechanics, in obtaining an alert and heightened sensory awareness needed in order to achieve the precision and clarity of more complex movement phrases and in developing the capacity for decision making in relation to learned movement material. It is a method of training for those who desire movement that has clear intention, is energetically releasing and reveals a deeply connected sense of mind and body.

In brief the technical work centers on kinesthetics rather than aesthetics, in order to re-discover how we move, are moved.
