Awareness Perception Presence: Shoulders And Hips. Movement class based on experiential evolutionary anatomy and the Feldenkrais Method, which also includes time for self-directed exploration. The class addresses different anatomical, movement and perceptual aspects of the relationships between the shoulders and hips in crawling and walking.
Nic Sandiland, Digital Artist (CB Talk)
'composite choreography' and 'modulation of movement'
Nic will be looking primarily at the inter-relationship between live movement and prerecorded movement and how this has been a fundamental aspect of his practice over the past 10 years. He hopes to show that through various digital interfaces (motion tracking – ultrasound, infra red and now hacked Kinect sensors), one can achieve an intimate movement-based relationship between pedestrian movement in everyday environments (members of the public in high streets, town squares etc) and dancer/performers in a cinematic environment (pre-recorded video).
He will highlight the fact that the interaction results in an ongoing and inseparable 'composite movement' that resides in the hybrid live-digital expanded space.
Drawing from contemporary dance practice (in particular contact improvisation), this presention will look at detection of the body's 'centre' as a means of establishing a more visceral, immediate and intimate link between two moving bodies: live and digital. This movement tracking is in contrast to the typical use of most motion detecting technologies (Xbox, Wii etc) which tend to focus on gesture and hand/arm motion.
