Independent Dance
Led by artists for artists
Independent Dance (ID) is an artist-led organisation providing a responsive framework to support, sustain and stimulate dance artists in their ongoing development as professionals. It provides a specialist and coherent programme offering opportunities to learn, deepen enquiry, share practice and exchange ideas as part of an interdependent international community.
ID was established in 1990 and has the longest running daily training programme in the UK. It is co-directed by Gill Clarke and Fiona Millward and is now based at the Siobhan Davies Studios where it aims to expand its advocacy role and act as a hub to develop dialogue beyond its own borders.
The classes and workshops at the core of the programme, led by internationally renowned artists, place a particular focus on body-based movement exploration as a source for performance, improvisation and composition.
We hope you enjoy the ID programme, and always appreciate your feedback to help keep the classes, activities and exchanges pertinent.
ID's specialist programme offers opportunities to:

- Learn practice that goes beyond the maintenance of physical condition and technical skill to promote mindful and efficient practice

- Deepen enquiry that creates a 'laboratory' environment with approaches to teaching and learning which stress the sharing of practice over the imparting of skills

- Exchange ideas rooted in the interrelationship of an individual artist's journey with a creative learning environment and the exchange of artistic skills and ideas
